Thoughts on a Rainy Day Wedding- YAY or NAY?

Dohm_0311_MMPAlthough we don’t see it often, this year it seems May has been a bit… well damp.  For couples (and their photographers) who are in love with an outdoor wedding, hearing the chance of rain on your wedding day can spur some depressing thoughts, dohn_0003j_mmphowever major kudos to our couples who experience this minor occurrence as all have shrugged off a little shower or major downpour and simply enjoyed their celebrations.  The best way to offer thoughts and tips if rain is on the radar for your wedding can only be expressed by recapping Brianna & Travis’s wedding at the Lancaster Eden Resort.

Dohm_0526_MMPThe fun and carefree couple had planned for an outdoor, courtyard ceremony with a short jaunt to a local Lancaster park for beautiful outdoor creative portraits, yet mother nature decided differently.  Bri & Travis were definitely prepared (as everyone planning an outdoor wedding should) and snatched up beautiful matching umbrellas for their bridal party and a large black golf for themselves which from what I heard were a steal at 5 Below.  Brianna and Travis’s attendants also took a page from the “How to be a gold star member of the bridal party” and made the best of it.. no complaints, no smugness, just happy and hilarious as the sky dropped huge buckets of rain during the bridal party shots.  We even got a break in the rain just in time for the couple portraits!

Most photographers actually love shooting on a rainy day as not everyone can capture gorgeous images when the elements are against them with lighting and how the subject will react.  Rain also makes the surroundings glisten.. but enough on my opinion and YAY vote.. you be the judge:)

Randi & Brian November 9, 2013

We say it often and words cannot express how blessed we are for such amazing clients and practicing our passion turned profession.  One person who always counts her blessings and passes along good cheer, our bride Randi, celebrated her gorgeous day marrying the love of her life, Brian on a gorgeous late fall afternoon.  I loved the personal touches from beginning to end that the couple added to their day, including horns for their exit from the church, a parade of classic vehicles, and a massive sweet treats favor bar!  One of my favorite moments was capturing the first dance.  The couple had practiced over a year, even polished off a few steps during their engagement session, yet mastered a gorgeous moment to share with each other and their guests.  Wishing warmest congratulations to Randi and Brian and many years of deserved happiness!

Elyse & Corey 6/15/2013

I try to keep a mental tally of how our couples met and what the most common pattern is- three of our most common are met through a mutual friend, met online (YAY online daters!!), and met in college such as the gorgeous Elyse and Corey did their senior year at good ol’ Bloomsburg U.  From being partners in their Business class to being partners in life, the dynamics this couple shares, along with a super adorable pup named Gunner, are magnetic!  My hands down favorite memory from their wedding day was after the first look when Heather Casey, one of our stellar lead photographers, and I had the chance to capture Elyse & Corey on their walk from the front of the Capitol Building to the back.  It was just a simple candid moment between the two with no distractions so they took in each other through looks, embrace, and overall excitement which gave way to pure emotion that can’t be posed- my personal favorite.  Congratulations Elyse & Corey!  You guys are amazing people and I know you’ll have such a blessed and joyous marriage!

The Miller/Miller Weddings

This is our first year that we’ve started to split photography teams to cover two weddings on one day.  Although we have the talent on both teams, we’ll most likely discontinue to do this after our 2011 season to maintain focus on our team’s individual goals.  When we meet with couples for two team wedding days, we’re adamant about making sure our couple meets Scott and Christin who will be covering their event, as well as Jason and Myself.

Without realizing the commonality, we had booked two Miller couples on the exact same wedding date!  Scott and Christin’s team was with Jessica and Jared in Lancaster at the Bent Creek Country Club.  Jessica looked amazing in her “princess” style gown and the cake was AMAZING!

Jason and I had the pleasure of working with Katie and Bob who were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony location, Duke Farm in Fawn Grove.  Despite the warmth and impending storms, the day went extremely well with one of our favorite vendors, G2 DJ’s keeping the dance floor packed!  Congratulations to both wonderful couples and many thanks for allowing both teams to be a part of your wedding day!
